How To Redress The Balance In 2015


How many times have you said it’s a new year so it’s a new me? (Guilty!) However, this time of year is the perfect opportunity to lose those few extra pounds you’ve been nagging yourself about, set yourselves resolutions or go crazy with new hairstyle. It’s time to give your home the same refreshing treatment!

New Year is the perfect time to embrace a new look, and there’s plenty to inspire in the latest decor trends – we all seem to crave neater and cleaner homes. Now that the house is bare from the removed Christmas decorations many of us feel the need to redecorate. From total transformations to inexpensive accessories, all touches can make a big difference to the overall look and feel of your home!

Get Creative

Nothing adds the wow factor like colour – if you are living in a world of beige, why not try deep, rich colour this year? Like emerald green, royal blue and blood red! There is no better time to makeover your house than January, with the sales in full force and the incentive ripened – take charge and go for it!

When it comes to redecorating, it is often hard for people to visualise their room with a different layout – now I know that furniture magazines are extremely expensive nowadays but why not look online – many do free subscriptions to give you some ideas! Whatever your budget, there may be ideas that you can steal, change or adapt to your house to make it work for you. Before you rush out to buy new pieces of furniture or accessories why not take a look around your home and look to see if there is anything that you can move around – a chair, cabinet or shelves – try to be creative, they night only need a lick of paint! Reupholstering, also known as upcycling, is a great way to keep up with the modern trends and save money by using the same furniture. Bored with your white wash furniture? Why not strip it back to original wooden colour!

Cover your eyes because what I’m about to write you may not want to see…firstly you need to de-clutter! I know, I know, one of the most daunting words in the world, it is something that we all put off. However, if you want to start a fresh then this is the first place you need to start. You need know you may even find some shelves you never used or some soft throws that you could use somewhere. Be ruthless – if you haven’t used it in the last 6 months then get rid!

If you do that the budget to invest in items of n the trend furniture, then try and invest in time piece, items that are classic and won’t go out of trend in a hurry, from solid oak wall shelves, to snugly throws, you’ll set a romantic and cosy atmosphere snuggling up on the sofa under a cashmere blanket with the roaring fire burning next to you.  Or why don’t you try adding a couple of colourful pillows? You can buy these fairly inexpensively or you could even get creative and re-cover your existing pillows in new fabric! Nothing updates a sofa or chair more quickly than a pillow…or two or three! If you have plenty of shelves, then why not spice them up by painting the underneath a bold colour and then adding some stick on lights underneath to allow the colour to reflect onto the wall below! An easy way to add a feature onto a plain wall.
