Despite the cold winter weather surrounding us as soon as we step outside, we can still fantasize about the summer! The summer is a brilliant time, and is as great a time as any to travel to New York City.
While New York is often seen as a concrete jungle, there is a fair share of outdoor things to do in The Big Apple. And what is better in the summer than getting out on the water? With that in mind, here are some fun “on the water” activities to do in New York City.
Head to the Beach
That’s right, New York City has some pretty amazing beaches that are definitely worth a visit, weather permitting. While these beaches might not be quite like the ones in Los Angeles, they are normally open from the end of May and will be open all summer long, and provide a great place to swim or relax.
As for which beach you want to go with, you have quite a few options. In total, there are over 10 beaches to choose from, each with their own pros and cons. Some might be busier than others, and each will differ in terms of the events and activities available.
Go For a Boat Cruise Tour
Walking around and seeing the sights of and sounds of the city is one of the best things to do in New York City. However, there is more than one way to see the city, with another option being to take a boat tour to see New York City from a whole different perspective.
The views you will get of your favorite landmarks are unparalleled and you will be able to take some amazing photos and see New York in a way you never have before. In addition to the amazing views of a NYC Statue of Liberty cruise, many tours are very affordable, so there is no reason not to check them out.
Go Kayaking or Sailing (Or Any Other Type of Water Sport)
While being on the water is fun for a tour, sometimes you want to get in that water! Water sports of all kinds are available at many of the beaches and lakes in and around New York City. Whether you want to go kayaking on the river, or do a little bit of paddleboarding, getting on (and in) the water in New York City is easy.
While some places will charge you for equipment rental and time with the equipment and such, others allow for free use of their equipment for a short period of time. Either way, it is very easy, affordable and accessible to enjoy water sports in New York City.
Rent a Jet Ski
If you have never ridden on a jet ski in your life, you’re missing out. It is an amazingly good time and something you should definitely try to do. Well, if you are vacationing in New York City, why not kill two birds with one stone?
There are many different jet ski rental services throughout the city and renting a jet ski is more affordable than you might think most of the time. Basically, it is impossible to have a bad time or be unhappy on a jet ski, they are more than worth the cost for a half hour or hour long ride.
