There are a lot of things to get stressed about when you’re in college. This is a period in your life when you have a lot of responsibilities to manage for the first time and there is always something going on to distract you from your studies. If you need to relieve some anxiety from it all, here are 5 things you shouldn’t stress over in college.
1. Relationships
When you’re in college, you should be having fun and dating from time to time, but your number one focus should be on your studies. If you are in a relationship that is getting so serious that it’s having a negative effect on your grades or your job, then you need to simply end it. If you really feel like the relationship is worth it, then you might want to try and reprioritize studying and meet your boyfriend or girlfriend at the library instead of a bar.
2. Friend Drama
It’s not only reckless to let your relationships affect your performance in school, but you also don’t want to let friend drama take up too much of your time. If you have a beef with somebody, you should either confront him or her or just avoid being the situation altogether. You can try to clear the air if you think it’s possible, but if it isn’t, then just do your best to cut the person out of your life. There’s a minimal chance that they will be a part of your future, so don’t let them distract you from your studies now.
3. Sports
Of course, if you are an athlete at a school like University of Cincinnati, then you are definitely going to want to focus very intently on sports – particularly your team. However, if you are not an athlete playing for the school on scholarship, then you definitely don’t want to let sports get in the way of your schoolwork. Even if you are an athlete and you play for your college, you want to be sure that you can balance your athletic practice with your classes if you want to stay on the team.
4. Money
When you’re in college you should try not to worry too much about money. This means two things: it means that you should learn how to be happy with how much disposable income you do have and it also means that you shouldn’t stress about paying for food, transportation or any other absolutely necessary expenses. If you don’t currently have enough money to pay for all of your basic necessities without worrying, then you should apply for grants. There are all kinds of grants out there and you just have to find one that applies to you. If you put the work into writing papers and getting letters of recommendation, you could make life a lot more comfortable.
5. Roommates
The worst thing to have to worry about when you’re in college is a bad roommate. If you have one or more roommates that are making your living experience miserable, then you simply need to find another place to live. College towns are full of transient people, which mean that you can usually move at any given moment. It may be a lot of work to figure out, but once you get it over with, you will be so happy you did.
