Dymatize ISO 100 Nutrition

Dymatize is a pretty well-known name in the supplement game, producing bars, protein powders, mass gainers, creatine, glutamine, and everything in between. They have a good reputation with third party testing sites like Labdoor, and they’re probably best known for their ISO 100 protein powder, which also forms the basis of their bars.

ISO 100 is a hydrolyzed whey, which means that whey isolate — the lowest fat, lowest calorie form of whey — has been run through enzymes that break it down into a form closer to its base amino acids.

That means it digests more quickly than your standard isolate, and while a lot of people emphasize that as important for post-workout, I think it might be even more useful if you’re the type to consume whey before or during a workout.

Dymatize ISO 100 Nutrition Info

One scoop provides 120 calories, 25 grams of protein, 2 grams of carbs (1 gram of sugar and no fiber), and 0.5 grams of fat. That’s very low in carbs and fat, which is typical for a hydrolyzed whey.

It is a little salty, with 160 milligrams of sodium or 7 percent of the recommended daily intake, but if you’re consuming this around your workouts, you’ll probably need the extra salt.

Otherwise, there’s nothing much to say about the micronutrients. It’s pretty low in calcium with 10 percent of your RDI and not particularly high or low in cholesterol with 10mg, or 3 percent of the RDI.

Dymatize ISO 100 Ingredients

Hydrolyzed whey protein isolate is the first ingredient, followed by whey protein isolate (so it’s not 100 percent hydrolyzed protein), cocoa powder, salt, soy lecithin (for mixability), natural and artificial flavors, potassium chloride, and the artificial sweetener called sucralose, also known as Splenda®

Dymatize ISO 100 Benefits and Effectiveness

This is a simple ingredients list with no real surprises — just about every protein powder on the market has soy lecithin and sucralose, though most contain another artificial sweetener called acesulfame potassium. It’s controversial in some circles as it may spike blood sugar, so extra careful consumers will be glad to see it’s not included.

Note that the product is entirely lactose free, which is probably why there are no digestive enzymes like lactase and aminogen included. That said, if you find that you tend to experience indigestion from protein powders even when they’re lactose free, you might miss the enzymes.

What you’re paying for here is a simple hydrolyzed whey. If that’s not your priority, there’s no reason to buy ISO 100 as there are plenty of cheaper, effective whey isolates and whey blends. But if hydrolyzed is what you want, this has the goods.

Mixability

It mixes very well. It’s just a little frothy, but it dissolves incredibly quickly and easily, probably because of the soy lecithin.

Dymatize ISO 100 Taste

The Gourmet Chocolate flavor was awesome. It’s very sweet and quite mild, so it made milk absolutely taste like a frothy, creamy shake. I was really surprised when I then mixed it with water: it’s such a sweet and milky chocolate that it worked really well with water.

This is no mean feat; very few protein shakes taste good with water. Ghost does, Syntha-6 does, and Dymatize does.

The Takeaway

Personally, I don’t think everyone needs to spend extra to get hydrolyzed whey, but it’s important for a lot of people that their protein shake digest and reach their muscles as quickly as possible. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! If you want a hydrolyzed whey, Dymatize is a delicious, well-priced option.
