Fancy A TV Binge? 5 Netflix Original Shows Perfect For A Lazy Day In!

Netflix has completely changed the way we watch TV and movies since it first arrived on the scene. Originally, it was a streaming service designed as an alternative to renting movies or DVD box sets, but in the past few years, it has also become the producer of some of the most talked about new programs going.

One of the draws of Netflix’s model is that it releases full seasons of new shows all at once, so if you are someone who enjoys marathoning their way through a season rather than waiting a week for the next installment, it is certainly an appealing prospect.

You can find out more about the movies and shows available on Netflix in your region at netflixguides.com, but if you are looking to start a new binge right now, here are five Netflix original series that may well fit the bill!

Stranger Things

With two seasons now available, Stranger Things has been one of the most talked about shows of 2017. With a mysterious plot that is somewhat reminiscent of a less surreal Twin Peaks and a lot of nostalgia, this show is ideal for anyone who loves 1980’s Stephen King stories and creepy, quirky Americana.

13 Reasons Why

This was another show that made a big impression on people in 2017 and was discussed a lot of blogs and social media. Covering the impact a collection of high school kids had on a classmate who commits suicide, the subject matter is far from cheerful, but the engaging plot and thought to provoke elements certainly make this an addictive series to watch.

Ajin: Demi-Human

For fans of Japanese anime and manga, this is a Netflix exclusive that adapts the popular comic of the same name. If your experience of anime has been most lively, comedic, battle-filled romps like Naruto or One Piece, then this disturbing and dramatic story about terrorism, immoral people, and government conspiracies may be a culture shock, but it is well worth watching the two seasons for the tense, gripping plot and fantastic cell-shaded animation.

Orange Is the New Black

This ‘dramedy’ set in a women’s prison was one of Netflix’s first forays into creating its own programming and has become hugely popular as a property. With larger than life characters, a fast pace and lots to keep you interested, it is great binge watch material if you haven’t already discovered it. While the premise may make it sound like a ‘girl’s show’, this series has proven just as popular with male viewers.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones

Netflix has made several Marvel series, including Iron Fist and Daredevil. However, one that has received a lot of critical acclaims is Jessica Jones, for its portrayal of a less well-known Marvel character which adds a surprising amount of realism considering the universe it is set in!

Try any (or all) of these shows to enjoy a chilled out, relaxing day in front of the TV – but don’t blame us if you get hooked!
