How To Avoid A Yeast Infection This Summer

How To Avoid A Yeast Infection This Summer

It’s never too late to start thinking about yeast infection prevention. With summer already here, it’s the perfect time to get serious about keeping yourself yeast free this season! Before we get started on the preventative tips it’s important to know exactly what a yeast infection is. The possibility of yeast infection is a common issue that both men and woman may have to deal with.  Everybody has a trace amount of yeast cells in their body. When the number of yeast cells in the body increases, a yeast infection can form. Yeast infections are not just limited to the vaginal area though. They can also occur in the mouth or anus. Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to drastically lower the chances of you getting a yeast infection. Here are a few tips!

Avoid Tight Fitting Undergarments

This one is something that caught me by surprise. But when you wear tight clothes there is a higher concentration of moisture around your vaginal area that can lead to a much higher likelihood of yeast infections.

Stay Out of Public Hot Tubs

Sometimes it can be pretty tempting to hop in your local swimming pool’s hot tub after a long swim to help relax your muscles. Unfortunately, these are usually a breeding ground for all kind of germs and icky things. It might be a better idea to just go get a massage or spend a bit of time in the sauna.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Your mother wasn’t lying when she told you to eat all your vegetables. Studies have shown that eating your daily portion of fruits and vegetables will help keep everything in balance and make a yeast infection a much rarer problem.

Avoid Douching

It is perfectly fine and highly recommended that you keep your vaginal area clean, however, make sure to just you warm water and a mild soap. All the chemicals and fragrances that are in most of the commercial douches can lead to yeast infections.

Get Enough Sleep

Sleeping  can’t be stressed enough. Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night will do wonders for your entire body, not just your vagina! Sleeping is when your body repairs itself and when you don’t get enough sleep your body is more prone to infections and diseases.

Wipe from Front to Back After Using the Rest Room

This is one of the easiest things you can do in order to prevent a yeast infection all together. The main reason for this is that if you wipe from back to front you run the risk of accidentally bringing fecal matter into your vagina, which is never a good thing.

Avoid Deodorants and Other Chemicals

While the idea is a good one, all the chemicals in those deodorants can upset the balance of your vagina. This is most common in tampons. Instead, regularly wash your vaginal area with a mild soap and warm water. This will keep things fresh without all the chemicals.

Keep in mind that all of these suggestions are preventative measures. If you are already suffering from any symptoms of a yeast infection, there are quite a few helpful resources online for different treatment methods.
