The all-new Xcent is Hyundai’s take on the compact sedan segment that’s hotly contested by the Maruti Swift DZire and the Honda Amaze. Hyundai globally launched the Accent in 1994; later launching it in India in 1999. After the third generation, Hyundai re-branded the new model as the Verna. The Accent was discontinued in 2013, making way for the Xcent in March 2014.
The Xcent is a booted version of the Grand i10 and it looks quite identical to the hatchback from the front. The Xcent has additional chrome bits on the wide diamond grille and boot. After the B-pillar there is a well-designed boot section that integrates seamlessly with the C-pillar. The Xcent gets 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels on top variants and 14-inch wheels on lower variants. The door handles have chrome inserts. The rear gets simple tail lights. The bumper comes with sensors and integrated reflectors for additional safety.
The seats are comfortable but lack under thigh support. The Xcent can seat four passengers comfortably.
The cabin looks a lot like the Grand i10. The seat comfort is excellent and there is ample rear legroom. The Xcent is the first in its segment to get keyless entry, push-button start and rear AC vents. The boot has a storage of 407 litres which makes it the biggest amongst its rivals. The other features include reverse parking sensors and camera, climate control, three spoke steering with mounted controls, audio system with Bluetooth, 1 GB storage for the audio system, optional ABS and dual airbags for higher variants, chilled glovebox and rear centre armrest.
There are two engines available on the Xcent – a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and 1.1-litre diesel motor. Both engines are teamed with a five-speed manual gearbox, the petrol also gets an option of a four-speed automatic transmission.
The diesel unit is a three-cylinder 1.1 L U2 CRDi engine with power of 71 bhp @ 4000 rpm and peak torque of 180 Nm @ 1750 rpm and is mated to 5-speed manual transmission system. The 4-cylinder 1.2 L Kappa dual VTVT petrol engine generates 82 bhp @ 6000 rpm and has 114 Nm of peak torque @ 4000 rpm and mated with either 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The Xcent diesel achieves ARAI efficiency of 24.4 kmpl while the petrol manual achieves 19.1 kmpl with the petrol automatic getting 16.9 kmpl.
The physical dimensions of the Hyundai Xcent are 3995 mm length, 1660 mm width, 1520 mm height, 2425 mm wheel base and 165 mm ground clearance.

The Hyundai Xcent is available in three variants, Base, S and SX, with additional Option (O) trims for the top-end SX variants.
