KVPY Details That Any Student Must Know

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is a scholarship course that is funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Indian Government. The course offers Scholarship and Contingency grants up to the pre-Ph.D level to students who get selected. The objective of this course is to identify and select exceptionally talented students for pursuing courses in Basic Science and Research.

Students are selected from Grade 11 to the initial year in undergraduate programs of Basic Sciences in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology having aptitude for scientific research. Committees are set up at the Indian Institute of Science to go through applications and hold aptitude tests at various centres in the country.

Based on the performance in the aptitude test, shortlisted students would be called for an interview which is the final stage of the KVPY Selection Procedure. To receive a fellowship, both interview marks and aptitude test would be considered.

75% weightage would be given for Aptitude Test Marks and 25% for interview marks in streams such as SA, SB and SX:

  1. Grade 11 – SA
  2. Grade 12 – SX
  3. 1st yr UG – SB

Candidates should write the exam category as per their level of education. Only Indian National candidates would be eligible to appear for KVPY 2018

KVPY provides scholarships to candidates wishing to enrol themselves in UG courses in basic Sciences. Candidates belonging to India alone would be able to apply for the KVPY Examination. Candidates belonging to any other country would not be eligible to apply for KVPY examination in any case.

Candidates can apply online for the KVPY Examination by filling their personal details, academic details, upload photo and signature along with fee payment to complete the application process for KVPY. Indian Institute of Science would be the allocating authority for KVPY Exam Centre. Candidates would be required to choose a test centre among 54 exam cities.  Three exam cities would have to be specified in the order of preference in the application form.

Once candidates successfully get through the aptitude test, they would be called for an interview where additional information regarding the candidate would be procured. Their aptitude in science and technology, apart from a round on current affairs would be tested. Candidates should present a confident introduction about themselves and exhibit sufficient knowledge in subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The notification for the exam is released in the month of July and the exam would be conducted in the month of November.
