At the starting of eighteenth century a young man with calm eyes took shelter in a mosque in Shirdi Village of Maharshtra State. He was unknown to anyone and hardly spoke anything.

After a while villagers started offering food him, but he never begged or asked anything from them. He was also seen sharing his food with the animals. Soon after, the young sage started expressing his views to few elderly villagers. His expression and simple language and his ability to solve the problems of poor and destitute made him a known personality. People started calling him as Shri Sai Baba. As the months progressed, devotees started coming into Shirdi large numbers and it became a popular pilgrimage place. Sai Baba used to distribute all his offerings and gifts to the poor. After spending most of his life in Shirdi, Sai Baba left his body in the year 1918 leaving behind a great legacy of love, empathy and spirituality. His body was laid in a temple which is now renowned as the Shirdi temple of Sai Baba.

Nobody knew about his parents or, where he came from or which religion he followed. The mystic saint Sai Baba continues to inspire his devotees in living a life of empathy and humanism.
