What are Jumbo Bags?
Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBC) or also well-known as jumbo bags are bags designed for transporting or shipping dry, flowable products. They are held in high esteem in food production, pharmaceutical and construction industries.
Businesses that use jumbo bags in Singapore don’t worry about static electricity control. As jumbo bags are being filled or when materials are discharged from them, the flow of powdered materials can produce static electricity (static electricity happens when there is an imbalance of electric charges within certain materials). It is important to remove or prevent such electric charge when it comes to packing and transporting flammable materials. Having the right type of jumbo bags can help avoid such problem.
Types of FIBC Bags and Their Uses
Generally speaking, there are four kinds of jumbo bags being manufactured, which have varying uses and applications. Below are the four types of jumbo bags and their qualities.
Regular FIBC Bags
This type of jumbo bag is considered the most common and easily available. Its load capacity ranges from 500 kg to 2000 kg. The dimensions of the bags may vary depending on the needs and preference of the customer. This bag type is commonly used in transporting non-flammable dry substances in powder form.
Conductive FIBC Bags
Also known as TYPE C FIBC, these bags are made of non-conductive polypropylene fabrics. These polypropylene fabrics are made of conductive threads that are interwoven and are perfect for transporting flammable powder substances or if there are combustible dust around the bags that are being packed or discharged.
Dissipative FIBC Bags
Dissipative jumbo bags are made from antistatic fabrics that come with static dissipative threads. This bag type is used in transporting flammable powders or when there are flammable solvents near or around the bag. This bag must not be used when there is water, grease or other conductors contaminating it.
FIBC Bags with Liners
This type of jumbo bags is made of polyethylene, multi-layered laminate liners that are utilized for transporting and storage of highly hygroscopic substances. The liners are glued or stitched into the jumbo bags for added protection, to prevent contamination and also to make sure that products are safe.
