It’s one thing to take classes in acupuncture, but quite another to find a course of study that will allow you to become a certified acupuncturist. Read on to learn more about what you can study and where to go in Canada to become an acupuncturist.
The School of Acupuncture here at Pacific Rim College is located in Victoria, BC, Canada and offers a variety of certificates and diplomas. One of the most common is the Diploma of Acupuncture. This course takes six terms to complete, and at its completion, graduates can sit for the exam and become a Registered Acupuncturist in British Columbia. Many other provinces and nations will recognize this diploma and grant you the ability to practice in their jurisdiction also.
Going one step further is the Diploma of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. This program is eight terms long and graduates can become Registered Practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine, going beyond acupuncture into Chinese herbal treatments.
One step beyond the individual diplomas is to become a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This program is ten terms long. Alternatively, there are the Dual Diplomas in Acupuncture and Phytotherapy and the Dual Diplomas in Acupuncture and Holistic Nutrition programs. These are long-term programs that require five years to complete each diploma path.
The School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine offers more than just acupuncture training as well. Students can specialize in Therapeutic Massage, Tai Qi, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Five Elements. Attend just a few courses of interest or enrol in a full diploma program – the choice is up to you.
All of these courses will give you the ability to obtain a licence and then practice throughout Canada, thanks to Pacific Rim being a fully government accredited institution of learning.
